Research - Supervision and Research Activities

To Prospective Research Students: Our knowledge-driven technology-mediated environments generate a vast amount of data that need to be dealt with on a daily basis. Acquiring such an understanding is a difficult problem, especially those huge datasets from real-world sources. The large and complex data present big challenges on how to discover reliable and significant patterns and (ir)regularities within them? How do we holistically make sense of these discoveries and their network models? How do we harness these data at different levels of granularity in collective decision making processes? The challenge - and the fundamental focus of this research - resides in creating a fast and effective visual analytics platform (including theoretical algorithms and development of systems) in which analysts quickly analyse huge amounts of data as well as share their insights and knowledge.

Visual Analytics is one of the future approaches for the analysis of huge information. Visual Analytics combines automated analysis techniques (such as data mining, statistical analysis, compression and filtering) with interactive visualisations, analytical reasoning and other related disciplines to achieve effective understanding, reasoning and decision making. Visual analytics can also be seen as an integral approach to decision making by combining interactive visualisation, human-factors and data analysis. Visual analytics has been applied into a number of application domains, such as Health Data Analysis, Homeland Security, Foreign Animal and Zoonotic Diseases, Finance Analysis, and others.

If you are enthusiastic to research new technologies and techniques on this challenging area or related disciplines in Visual Analytics, Interactive Visualization, Immersive Analytics (VR/AR/XR), Human Computer Interaction, and related fields, please don't hesitate to contact me.
